Pennsylvania health officials have confirmed a case of measles in Jefferson County involving an unvaccinated Amish child, prompting Penn Highlands hospitals in DuBois and Clearfield to activate infectious disease protocols and remain on alert for additional cases.
According to WTAJ news, the Department of Health also reports confirmed measles cases in Bedford and Centre counties. Health officials say measles symptoms include a fever of 101 degrees or higher, rash, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes.
Anyone experiencing symptoms or who believes they were exposed is urged to contact a healthcare provider before seeking treatment so appropriate infection control measures can be put in place.
