A Clarion County man was not injured after his SUV struck a bear on Interstate 80 last week, triggering airbag deployment and a secondary crash into a roadside sign, according to state police.
Authorities said the crash occurred June 25 in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 43.7 when a bear suddenly entered the roadway, leaving the driver no time to react. Troopers said the deployed airbags briefly obstructed the driver’s view, causing the vehicle to veer off the highway before striking the sign and coming to rest on the shoulder.
The driver was wearing a seat belt, and the vehicle was later towed from the scene.
