Lawrence Township Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to begin re-establishing an independent township police department after negotiations to preserve the Clearfield Regional Police Department collapsed.
According to GantNews.com, Supervisors approved several measures following an executive session, including notifying regional officers of the township’s intent to reform its department, beginning labor contract negotiations and setting Dec. 31, 2026, as the official separation date from the regional force. Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner said township officials had hoped to maintain the regional department but claimed Clearfield Borough Council remained committed to disbanding the alliance.
The move follows months of legal and financial disputes between the township and borough over the future of the regional police force.
