Brookville Borough Council voted Tuesday to suspend two borough police officers with pay and to discontinue its school resource officer agreement with the local school district due to ongoing staffing shortages.
Punxsutawney Spirit reports, Council President Phil Hynes said the department has struggled to recruit and retain officers, making it difficult to adequately cover both the borough and the schools.
Police Chief Vince Markle said officers will continue conducting walkthroughs and maintaining a presence at schools when possible, despite the end of the full-time SRO arrangement.
