DuBois City Council has approved the creation of the new DuBois Recreation Authority, a municipal authority that will oversee parks, recreational facilities and programming throughout the city.
According to the Courier Express, Officials said the authority will centralize management of city amenities including parks, playgrounds, athletic fields and the city pool while improving long-term planning, maintenance and operations. The five-member inaugural board includes Mike Gray, Dana Smith, Craig Ball, Jake Ross and Shawn Johnston, serving staggered terms.
City leaders said the authority will operate independently of the city’s taxing power and could eventually hire an executive director or oversee third-party management contracts for recreational facilities.
