Pennsylvania officials on Friday began enforcing “Paul Miller’s Law,” which bans the use of hand-held cellphones while driving, including while temporarily stopped in traffic or at signals.
Signed by Gov. Josh Shapiro in 2024, the law allows only hands-free device use and carries a $50 base fine plus court costs for violations.
State police and PennDOT officials said the measure is intended to reduce distracted driving crashes, which accounted for nearly 10,000 incidents in Pennsylvania in 2024, according to state data.
