Several Pennsylvania counties have collectively received more than $21 million in recent years for housing immigration detainees on behalf of federal authorities, according to a Spotlight PA investigation, as renewed scrutiny grows over local cooperation with enforcement efforts tied to a nationwide deportation campaign.
While critics raise ethical concerns over the “criminalization” of immigrants for profit, others argue the revenue is a vital lifeline for general funds and jail operations.
Clearfield County also maintains a unique financial arrangement, acting as a “middleman” to collect administrative fees by facilitating payments between ICE and the privately operated Moshannon Valley Processing Center.
