A 42-year-old New Bethlehem man is facing charges after allegedly using his brother’s identity during a traffic stop to avoid arrest on active warrants. ExploreClarion.COm is reporting.
Michael Kevin Altman was stopped Jan. 31 at a Uni-Mart on West Mahoning Street for lack of insurance and reportedly provided his brother’s name and personal information, later requesting additional details by text message. The scheme was discovered after the brother received a citation in the mail and contacted police. Altman was later located at the Clarion County Jail on unrelated warrants and allegedly admitted he lied to avoid arrest.
He is charged with hindering apprehension, false identification and multiple traffic violations, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 7.
