No one was hurt following an explosion at a White Township scrapyard Monday afternoon.
Indiana County 911 dispatched Indiana Fire Association members to Integral Scrap & Recycling along Airport Road around 1:45 for what was initially deemed as a miscellaneous fire. Creekside Fire Department was called in five minutes later to provide tanker assistance.
John Steigert with the Indiana Fire Association confirmed an explosion took place inside the scrapyard and it led to a fire inside the scrap. An exact cause was not determined but crews believe it stemmed from a gas cylinder or a fuel tank. Steigert adds the explosion was heard up to half-a-mile away.
