The Department of Human Services released its annual Child Protective Services report on Monday.
The 173-page report outlines efforts to protect children from abuse and neglect. It reveals that suspected child abuse reports statewide increased over the last year from 38,013 in 2021 to 39,093 in 2022. last year, there were 60 child abuse-related fatalities. Among these, 46 children were already in the system before their deaths. And, all 60 fatalities had perpetrators known to the county’s Children and Youth agency.
