Pennsylvania’s First Lady visited the Pennsylvania State Police Academy to highlight the need for more female troopers.
Less than 10 percent of Pennsylvania’s more than 4,000 state troopers are women. As part of a national effort, the State Police are working to increase that number to 30 percent by the 2030. First Lady Lori Shapiro says, “The Pennsylvania State Police was the nation’s first state police agency to fully integrate female troopers into its regular command structure, and we need to build on that legacy.”
In an effort to recruit troopers, both male and female, Governor Josh Shapiro is proposing more than 16 million dollars in his budget for four new trooper cadet classes.
