Yesterday the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine announced a potential vaccine against SARS-COV-2, causing the COVID 19 pandemic, may be sufficient for neutralizing the virus.
According to UPMC.com, their experience in this research began in 2003 with a similar virus. The delivery method for the vaccine uses a fingertip-sized patch of 400 tiny needles that delivers the protein pieces into the skin, where the immune reaction is strongest and, according to the article, called a microneedle array.
If the FDA approves the next phase of testing in humans over the next few months, it could still be a year or longer before its available for the public; however, they say given the unusual situation we are in, it may be sooner.
