There was a dramatic rescue of an injured person on Saturday afternoon in Canoe Township.
Rossiter, Marion Center, and Glenn Campbell firefighters were dispatched, along with Jefferson County units from Perry Township, Big Run and Jefferson County EMS, to the area of Millstone Road for a search detail just before 2 PM. Marion Center firefighters report that the individual was at an unknown location, but 911 was able to track the cell phone signal to an area that was about 250 feet by 250 feet.
After about an hour, the individual was located, and it became a rescue operation. The victim was about 1,500 feet down an embankment, so more than 25 firefighters using UTVs and a very large amount of rope rescued the person, who was then flown to the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
A representative of the Marion Center Fire Company said it was a three-hour operation to search and rescue the injured individual and credited all of the responding agencies and the Indiana County Emergency Management Agency for their combined efforts.
The victim’s name has not been released.
