On Friday the Punxsutawney Borough Council held a special meeting to determine if the Groundhog Festival Committee Inc., would be allowed to continue to use Barclay Square for the 2020 festival.
According to the Punxsutawney Spirit, after an executive session the council voted to deny the use of the park to GFC Inc, for the 2020 festival. The published report says council would have been willing to grant the use of Barclay Square if Roger Steele would step down as Groundhog Festival Committee Inc.. Chairman and re-write their by-laws to be more inclusive of other organizations, e.g., PRIDE, Punxsy Fire Department, Vendor’s, SPLASH and other local entities.
The Punxsy Spirit reports: The motion to not grant permission to Groundhog Festival Committee Inc., carried 4-0.
