There are new charges today against an Avonmore man who is already charged with shooting four bulls with a crossbow in March.
60-year-old Shaun Ross is charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct for a disturbance at his apartment April 20th inside his apartment on Westmoreland Avenue in Avonmore. State police say Ross ran around the apartment screaming and activating fire alarms, and he broke several doors. Damage was estimated at more than $300.
Ross is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 7th in the shooting of the bulls. He’s charged with agricultural vandalism, ecoterrorism, aggravated cruelty to animals, criminal mischief, corruption of minors, criminal trespass, and furnishing liquor to minors. A 15-year-old boy he had with him on the night of March 16th is facing unspecified juvenile charges.
The shootings happened at a farm in Loyalhanna Township. Two of the animals, valued at $13,500, had to be euthanized. The other two are recuperating. Police say Ross convinced the boy to shoot the animals because he, Ross, needed the beef.
The new charges were filed under two separate case numbers yesterday by Kiski Valley state police. They are listed as “awaiting pleas.”
