State health officials are offering assistance to Allegheny County in the wake of several reported cases of the measles.
At last count, five measles cases have been reported in Allegheny County, four in the same family. Gov. Tom Wolf’s office issued a statement saying he has been in touch with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, seeking to ensure accurate and useful information is available for residents.
County health officials say the risk of spread is minimal, but add that the measles vaccine is the best defense. The latest figures show that more than 97 percent of school age children in Allegheny County have already been vaccinated.
