Sandra Lee Davenport passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at her home in Knox, PA, after an extended illness. She was 84 years old and a member of the Shippenville Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Sandra was born on August 21, 1941, to Harold Edward Hallam and Eve Ruth (Sproul) Hallam in Meadville, PA. She graduated in 1959 from Saegertown High School, and later that year she married her devoted husband, Paul Bennett (Ben) Davenport, on September 2, 1959. Together they raised five children near Mercer, PA. Later in life they built their dream house–a charming log cabin on Hamburg Rd. in Greenville, PA–next door to their daughter, son-in-law, and two of their grandchildren. The entire extended family helped to build the log cabin, including Sandra’s father, Harold. Once it was finished, Sandra took great joy in decorating, landscaping, and above all hosting family and friends at their new home. The log cabin was a gathering spot where Sandra always fed everyone well and served their favorite home-baked desserts–cinnamon rolls, berry pies, pumpkin pie, cobblers, and fudge nougats–all depending on who was stopping by. Her grandchildren who spent the night would always be treated to blueberry pancakes in the mornings.
Sandra’s children, grandchildren, and friends will remember her as a loving homemaker, an avid gardener, an excellent cook, a listening ear, and a steady presence. She took a genuine interest in others, showed unconditional love, and showed up to celebrate every milestone in their lives. They will never forget her beautiful flowers, the historic train rides, picking berries together, long afternoons working on puzzles, or how she taught them to garden, sew, crochet, attract wild birds, and even to make clothes.
Upon reflection of her caring nature, her grandchildren said “She was the kind of grandmother everyone should have in their life,” “With her green thumb, each place she lived became a botanical garden,” and “She loved us for who we were.”
Sandra’s faith remained important to her throughout her life and shaped the kindness, hospitality, and generosity for which she was known. Like fellow members of Jehovah’s Witnesses, she maintained a hope to be reunited with loved ones in the near future on a paradise earth.
Sandra is survived by five children: Timothy (Laura) Davenport, Rebecca (Gerald) Brickey, Deborah (Randy) Hetrick, Stephen (Tami) Davenport, and Esther Maurer; nine grandchildren: Joshua Brickey, Tom Hetrick, Leah Peregrine, Lindsey Gotto, Alyssa Davison, Meghan Thornton, Matthew Davenport, Lauren Davis, and Hailey Long; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Brenden and Emilee Brickey, Olivia and Xavier Peregrine, Grady and Scarlett Gotto, Eli Dunfee, Adalyn, Logan, and Ava Busch, Peyton and Holden Davenport, and Mason Davis.
Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Ben, her sister, Sylvia Hallam, her mother, Ruth, her father, Harold, whom she dearly loved, and her son-in-law, Greg Maurer. Services will be held via Zoom on June 27 at 3pm. To join the services virtually, use Zoom ID: 696 740 745; Passcode: 1914
The family would like to thank the Clarion Forest Visiting Nursing Association Hospice team for their compassionate care, which allowed Sandra to spend her final months comfortably at home surrounded by those she loved.
