In Clearfield, Borough Council members formally appointed Rod Witherite as the future police chief following the planned dissolution of the regional police force.
According to WJAC News, the vote came after a closed executive session, despite the borough solicitor initially telling residents that no action was expected. Solicitor Jim Dennison later acknowledged the move was legal but said the communication surrounding the decision created public confusion and “bad optics.”
Borough officials emphasized that Witherite has not yet been officially hired as discussions continue regarding the community’s long-term law enforcement structure.
