Lawrence Township supervisors voted Tuesday to begin the process of reforming a township police department while still expressing hope that the Clearfield Regional Police Department can be preserved through continued negotiations with Clearfield Borough.
According to GantNews.Com, supervisors cited ongoing communication issues and uncertainty ahead of upcoming contract negotiations as reasons for preparing to move forward independently if necessary. The board also voted to appoint interim Chief Julie Curry as township police chief should the regional department dissolve.
Officials from both municipalities have not held joint discussions on the future of the CRPD since March.
