A 31-year-old man from Naperville, Illinois, was killed Monday evening in a crash along Interstate 80 that occurred as emergency crews were already responding to a separate tractor-trailer accident.
WTAJ News is reporting the Clearfield County Coroner identified the victim as Oleksandr Koshkidko. Fire crews responding to an initial crash involving two tractor-trailers blocking both eastbound lanes near the 125-mile marker encountered a second crash with heavy entrapment at mile marker 124.8, which was later confirmed as the fatal incident. Emergency responders used hydraulic rescue tools, including spreaders, cutters and rams, to extricate the trapped individual over several hours. The highway was shut down for about four hours between the Woodland and Kylertown exits to allow crews to work safely, with traffic also causing congestion on nearby routes including Route 53, Route 322 and the Allport cutoff.
Authorities said all lanes have since reopened, and additional details remain limited as the investigation continues.
