A 50-year-old Rimersburg man was jailed Monday after police said he was firing a semi-automatic handgun in a wooded area behind Clarion Area Elementary School, prompting a brief lockdown.
Clarion Borough Police Department said officers responded around 10:15 a.m., confirmed gunfire and detained Steven M. Barkefelt, who is charged with felony firearm offenses and reckless endangerment. Authorities said the incident was contained within minutes and there is no ongoing threat. Barkefelt was unable to post $50,000 bail and was committed to Clarion County Jail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 21.
