Pennsylvania’s highest court has rejected Penn State’s attempt to block the release of internal trustee records, allowing a lower court ruling to stand that deems the documents public.
According to a Spotlight PA article, the state Supreme Court declined to hear the university’s appeal of a Commonwealth Court decision ordering the release of records tied to a 2022 trustees retreat and committee meeting, as well as portions of a financial document. The case stemmed from a request by Spotlight PA, which argued the records should be accessible under the state’s Right-to-Know Law.
Advocates for the newsroom said the decision reinforces government transparency, while Penn State had contended the records were not subject to disclosure.
