State officials and Jefferson County commissioners on Wednesday announced more than $460,000 in federal funding secured by the U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson to support planning for a new county 911 center. The funding will help develop a larger, modern facility with upgraded equipment, with proposed relocation near the county jail, as officials work to improve emergency response capabilities for more than 45,000 residents. County leaders said the project remains in the planning stages and could take several years to begin.
