Federal prosecutors and defense attorneys in the case against John “Herm” Suplizio jointly asked a judge Friday to allow the release of otherwise confidential tax records as part of the criminal proceedings.
The request, which also involves co-defendant Roberta Shaffer, seeks to permit the sharing of financial documents gathered during the investigation to comply with evidence disclosure requirements. Meanwhile, WJAC News also reports, U.S. District Judge Haines is considering a separate motion that could disqualify defense attorney William A. Shaw Jr. over potential conflicts of interest tied to his representation of former DuBois police chief Blaine Clark, who may be called as a witness.
Suplizio and Shaffer face charges including conspiracy, federal program theft and money laundering related to an alleged scheme spanning more than a decade.
