Higher-than-expected repair bids for the Punxsutawney Community Center’s fitness center roof have left the project’s future in limbo.
The Punxsutawney Spirit reports, Borough Manager Dr. William Spencer informed the Borough Council that initial bids far exceeded available Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding. County engineers are now reviewing the scope of the project to see if it remains feasible. The existing flat rubber roof has detached from the structure, and officials fear extensive underlying damage. Council member Joe Ferrara proposed a polyurethane spray coating as a potential cost-saving alternative, noting it could offer better insulation and a long-term warranty.
Spencer said the borough will consult with engineers and community center leadership before deciding whether to scale back the repairs or redirect the grant money to other projects.
