The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has issued a public warning about the dangers of cold exposure following a recent hypothermia-related death.
Chief Deputy Coroner Jason Stiver said no identifying information will be released to protect the privacy of the individual and their family, calling the incident a “heartbreaking loss” that was likely preventable.
Officials warned that hypothermia can occur even in temperatures above freezing, particularly among elderly and medically vulnerable residents, and urged the public to dress in layers, ensure adequate home heating and check regularly on neighbors and relatives living alone.
