Winter weather and whiteout conditions triggered a series of crashes on Interstate 80 in Clarion County on Thursday, involving more than 20 vehicles and forcing a shutdown of eastbound lanes for several hours, state police said.
Authorities reported five major incidents between mile markers 42 and 59.2 beginning around midmorning, including a multi-vehicle pileup, a jack-knifed tractor-trailer that trapped its driver, and a crash involving a state police vehicle.
Several motorists suffered minor injuries, and traffic was heavily delayed as emergency crews, tow operators and PennDOT worked to clear the roadway.
