The Pennsylvania Game Commission is asking residents and hunters to report sightings of wild turkey flocks through March 15 as part of ongoing population research.
Officials say the information helps identify locations where turkeys can be safely trapped and male birds banded this winter to monitor harvest rates. Hunters who later harvest a banded turkey, or find one dead, are encouraged to report the band number, which provides biologists with data on survival and age.
The commission noted no turkeys will be fitted with transmitters this winter, as several long-term research projects are ending.
