DuBois and Sandy Township officials on Monday marked the official consolidation of the two municipalities during a ceremony at the Reitz Theater, swearing in new council members including Mayor Barry Abbott Sr. and Vice President Shirley Dahrouge.
According to WJAC News, leaders said the merger, the third successful municipal consolidation in Pennsylvania since 1994, is intended to strengthen leadership and improve services, and was highlighted by the opening of the city’s new municipal building, which will serve as a central hub for city offices and public services.
