Growing concerns about visible homelessness were raised at a recent DuBois-Sandy Township Joint Consolidation Board meeting, where Councilwoman Jennifer Jackson questioned local support efforts.
According to The Courier Express, Police Chief Kris Kruzelak confirmed the situation has become more challenging since the area’s only homeless shelter lost funding and closed in August.
While law enforcement directs individuals to county-level social services and the 2-1-1 hotline, Kruzelak noted that limited regional shelter options and issues with mental health and substance abuse complicate efforts to provide consistent aid.
