Voters in the newly consolidated municipality of DuBois and Sandy Township went to the polls Tuesday to elect the first-ever DuBois City Council, with unofficial results showing a strong showing for the Republican slate.
The election was keenly watched as it marked a major step in the consolidation process, intended to provide a fresh start following the scandal involving the former DuBois city manager. Voters chose seven members for the new city council from a field of candidates that included Republicans, Democrats, and one Independent. The top vote-getters for the four-year terms included Republicans Shirley M. Dahrouge and Samuel J. Mollica III, alongside fellow Republican candidates Mark T. Sullivan, J. Barry Abbott Sr., Richard A. Whitaker, and William A. Beers Jr. Democrat Michael J. Piccirillo also secured one of the available seats.
The new council will take office when the consolidated City of DuBois officially forms on January 6, 2026.
