Local food banks are bracing for increased demand after the Trump administration agreed Monday to use $4.65 billion in contingency funds to cover about half of November’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits amid the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The move follows a federal judge’s ruling requiring the Agriculture Department to continue the program.
It’s uncertain how long it will take to disperse the partial funds ranging from weeks to months.
