A Punxsutawney woman is facing charges after allegedly lying about being assaulted.
Police say 66-year-old Geraldine Smith claimed she was attacked by a man and needed 13 stitches for a head injury. However, an investigation revealed she had fallen and never told EMS she was assaulted. Officers later obtained a recording of Smith saying she would lie to get the man jailed. She eventually admitted to making up the story but failed to file an amended statement as promised.
Smith is charged with unsworn falsification and filing a false report. A preliminary hearing is set for July 3.
