Pennsylvania Farmers may soon be exempt from paying unemployment taxes on some migrant workers.
A bill aligning Pennsylvania tax law with federal policy has passed the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee. House Bill 1157 would exempt farmers from paying unemployment taxes for H-2A visa workers, who aren’t eligible to receive unemployment benefits.
Sponsor Rep. Christina Sappey says the change could save farmers thousands annually by eliminating unnecessary tax payments.
