In 1966 President Lyndon Johnson declared Waterloo, NY the birth place of Memorial Day. A ceremony occurred there on May 5th of 1866 to honor local veterans who died in the Civil War. Businesses closed and residence flew flags at half-staff.
Remember on this Memorial Day Monday several schools and banks will closed, along with government offices like the post office and PennDOT.
