In Pennsylvania, over 1.3 million voters can’t participate in the Democratic or Republican primaries on April 23rd due to the closed primary system.
According to a publication from Spotlight PA Efforts to change this aim to include independent and third-party voters, but legislative action has been slow despite bipartisan support.
Advocates argue that open primaries could mitigate extremism and polarization in politics.
