We’re in for a cicada sighting, but not the big periodic swarms that surface every 13 or 17 years.
Instead, expect the annual cicadas buzzing from July to September, making their regular appearance. In Pennsylvania, keep an eye out for the occasional straggler from periodic Brood XIV. These stragglers tend to emerge when the soil heats up to 64 degrees, usually in late May after rainfall.
The next wave of periodic cicadas is slated for Pennsylvania in 2030 with Brood II.
