The suspended city manager of DuBois, Herm Suplizio, appeared in court yesterday after being indicted on charges of theft and fraud.
According to reports, the state attorney general’s office withdrew its charges, allowing the federal government to solely prosecute the case. Investigators allege that Suplizio and another city employee conspired to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars in city funds by creating secret bank accounts.
The published reports adds, in August, the city council approved a buyout of Suplizio’s contract, which was later halted by a judge’s injunction. Suplizio now faces up to 45 years in prison and a $1.2 million fine if convicted.
