The Bell Township supervisors addressed the recent controversy about fire hydrant placement at their meeting.
According to today’s Punxsutawney Spirit, the Township is responsible for paying a monthly fee to the water company for a fire hydrant, even if it is installed at no direct cost to the township. The published report adds, the board believes that general funds should not be used to support the cost of a fire hydrant, as only those with properties near it benefit from it. It takes 26 properties to support the total cost that the township pays per fire hydrant.
