A section of State Route 28 in the New Bethlehem area was temporarily closed Thursday due to flooding and ice jams along Redbank Creek.
According to ExploreJeffersonPa.Com, Mayor Gordon Barrows said warmer temperatures and rainfall caused shifting ice and rising water near the intersection of Route 28 and Fairmount Avenue, prompting the shutdown in front of the Miller Medical Center.
Borough crews and emergency responders monitored conditions while residents in low-lying areas were urged to move vehicles to higher ground and motorists were warned to avoid flooded roadways.
