A DuBois family is raising awareness about Type 1 diabetes while seeking community support to help fund a medical alert dog for their 8-year-old daughter, Lila.
Kayla and Nate Nasuti said Lila was diagnosed at age 1 after being airlifted in critical condition to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh with severe diabetic ketoacidosis. The family hopes a specially trained dog from Tattle Tale Scent Dogs will help detect dangerous blood sugar changes before symptoms occur.
Fundraising efforts include a candy bar sale this weekend at the Treasure Lake Post Office, with donations also accepted online as the family works toward their $10,000 goal.
