An Ohio man died Friday night after crashing his motorcycle while fleeing police in Venango County.
According to ExploreClarion.Com, Thomas W. Swearingen, 59, of Masury, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene when his 2000 Yamaha Roadstar 1600 left U.S. Route 62 in Cranberry Township around 9 p.m., hitting multiple trees and coming to rest in a culvert. Police said the incident began when Oil City officers tried to stop Swearingen for a traffic violation. He fled eastbound, went up an embankment, and crashed in a wooded area.
Swearingen was wearing a helmet, but it was reportedly used improperly. Local fire, EMS, and towing crews assisted at the scene.
