Jefferson County Commissioner Scott North is pushing back against Sheriff Samuel Bartley’s claims about staffing cuts and tax posting duties.
North clarified that only one vacant deputy position was eliminated, and the sergeant role was merely a pay title, not a separate job. He also accused Bartley of misrepresenting the situation and failing to communicate about issues with tax sale postings. North defended shifting those duties to another office and dismissed claims that the county owes the Sheriff’s Office money. He called for cooperation moving forward, saying the department remains fully staffed.
