Penn State’s Board of Trustees voted 25–8 to close seven commonwealth campuses—DuBois, Fayette, Mont Alto, New Kensington, Shenango, Wilkes-Barre, and York—citing financial strain and a 43% drop in enrollment.
The closures, announced during a special meeting on May 22, will take effect after the 2026–27 academic year. University President Neeli Bendapudi said the move aims to streamline operations and prepare for long-term success.
