With the start of the college year comes a warning from the Federal Communications Commission of scams targeting students.
FCC says the most prevalent scams involve scholarships, tech support, and bogus roommate and rental deals. Campus scammers are using all the tricks, including cold calls, robocalls, emails and text messages that appear to be official.
The warning comes with the usual preventative measures to avoid becoming a victim: never provide personal information over the phone, protect your Social Security number, bank account and routing numbers, and be watchful of your credit and debit card accounts.
