Big Run Borough Council voted to approve an ordinance replacing the weight restriction on Mitchell Avenue. Today’s Punxsutawney Spirit reports the new ordinance maintains a 10-ton weight limit, requiring heavier vehicles to obtain a special hauling permit. Local traffic is exempt unless it’s likely to damage the road, in which case a permit and bond are required.
The Spirit adds that Emily Mueller from GRB Law Firm advised against discussing the ordinance due to pending litigation with Star Iron Works. Franklin Stockdale from Star Iron Works argued that it’s unfair and unnecessary, noting the company’s long-standing presence and contributions to the community. Despite these objections, it passed with a 4-1 vote.
