Lawmakers have approved delay of the Pennsylvania presidential primary.
The measure moves the primary from April 28th to June 2nd. The five-week period, it is hoped, will move the primary past a potential spike in COVID-19 cases.
The Democratic Party’s rules for selection of presidential delegates prevent primaries later than June 16th.
The legislation also gives county election offices an early start on processing and tabulating mail-in ballots.
Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman says the date will be revisited if it becomes clear that holding an election on that day proves impossible. Pennsylvania joins 10 other states in delaying its primaries. Governor Tom Wolf says he will sign the measure into law.
