The local unemployment rate was higher than the national average for the month of July.
According to the PA Department of Labor and Industry, Jefferson County had an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent, Indiana County’s unemployment rate went up four-tenths of a percent to 4.7 percent, while Clearfield County had 5.0 percent.
As far as the state goes, Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate went up one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.9 percent, and the national rate is at 3.7 percent.
The total non-farm jobs in the area went down 400 to 30,500 jobs in July. This is a typical seasonal movement due mostly to additional staff being released for summer break from local schools.
