A man from Punxsutawney was killed on Tuesday in a crash on I-80.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police in DuBois, the three-vehicle accident occurred around 9:30 pm while each vehicle was traveling west in the right lane in Washington Township near mile marker 94. A tractor trailer driven by 70-year-old David E. Wood, of Winfield, Illinois was slowing down do to traffic congestion, while two vehicles behind him were traveling at a higher rate of speed: A pickup driven by 52-year-old Scott E. Smith of Punxsutawney, followed by a semi with 55-year-old Samuel A. Addo of Joliet, Illinois behind the wheel.
According police Addo hit the rear of Smith’s pickup, causing it to spin and collide with Wood’s trailer. Emergency responders attempted to save his life; however, Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
Addo was cited for careless driving.
