U.S. News & World Report has issued its annual rankings of high schools across the nation, including where they rank within their state.
The rankings are compiled using each school’s measure of the college readiness of its students and their proficiency at both mathematics and English. In the region the rank order starts with Marion Center at number 205, followed by Dubois ranked at 206, and Punxsutawney ranked at 235.
The magazine lumps together the remaining high schools, not assigning an individual number for schools 516 to 673. Penns Manor and Purchase Line fall into that category. Top math proficiency honors go to Saltsburg at 87 percent of the student body, followed by Marion Center at 84 percent. Marion Center also scored highest in English proficiency at 90 percent.
